About Me

My photo
Hi I'm Clare, I live in the South West of England in the seaside town of Torquay. I adore playing with inks, paints and generally getting messy. It is the calm place which fits in between my hectic life whilst working as an outreach support worker, looking after my son, daughter, foster son and hubby. Not forgetting our gorgeous springer spaniel, Suzi.

Mixed Media Monthly Challenge #38 Altered Embelishments

Hi folks, It's been a while since I've visited my own blog!  I'm here today sharing with you my project for the Mixed Media Monthly Challenge.

This months sponsor is 'UmWowStudio', They manufacture quality craft chipboard pieces and stencils.  They are offering this months lucky winner a $30 gift certificate along with free shipping.  This month we were lucky enough to work with these stunning chipboard leaves and foliage. They are really sturdy and super to work with.

It's true to say that in some respect I am a bit of hoarder, so when I came across this old picture frame it was time to revive and give it a new lease of life!

After fixing the chipboard to the frame I gave the whole frame a coat of gesso.   I painted layer of slate chalk paint onto the frame, a coat of weathered wood and then a coat of Deco Art crackle paint.  I added some colour to the frame using Deco Art Media fluids and some stamping to the frame using the butterflies from Carabelle Studios Loving Thoughts  and one of the 'Tiny Backgrounds' from Indigoblu.

Using the Finnabair Patina Paste set,  I carefully painted the chipboard pieces with the pastes and added some darker tones in between to make them pop.

My old photo frame, up cycled, will definitely take pride of place on my mantel piece.  Now it's your turn.  Pop over to the Mixed Media Monthly Challenge, check out the rules and pop your entries into this months 'Altered Embellishemts' challenge.
